A Christmas Miracle

Sarah called out softly, Mommy."  Susie hurried to her side and said, "Mommy's here, Sarah.  What's wrong, honey?  Did you have a bad dream?"  "No, Mommy," said Sarah, "I did have a dream, but it wasn't bad.  It was a beautiful dream.  I was in heaven again, and I saw my Angel Doris."  Bill walked over to the bed and took Sarah's hand.  He said, "What did Angel Doris say, Sarah?"  "She said Mommy was sad and to tell her God is wonderful and not to blame Him for what happened to her.  She said to tell Mommy that she is happier than she has ever been.  And Mommy, she said that your daddy is with her and that he said to tell his Susie Q that he loves her."  Susie's eyes filled with tears and before she could turn away, Sarah said, "Don't cry, Mommy, they really are okay."  Susie bent down and kissed her on the cheek and said, "Okay, Sarah.  Now you try to sleep."  Sarah said, "Wait Mommy, one more thing.  Angel Doris said to tell you to have faith and that Christmas miracles still happen if you really believe.  Do you believe, Mommy?"  Susie smiled at her and said, "I do now.  Now please get some rest."  "I will, Mommy,"  Sarah said, "But remember, Christmas is just three days away."  Then she turned over and closed her eyes.  In a few minutes she drifted off to sleep.

Bill took Susie by the hand and said, "Try to rest a while, Susie.  I will stay up with her for awhile, you need to rest."  Susie was tired, she hadn't rested much since Sarah got sick again.  With a little persuading from Bill, she agreed.  She laid down and in just a few minutes she was fast asleep.  She awoke to noises in the room, it was the nurse taking Sarah's vitals.  How's she doing?" asked Susie.  "Her vitals are stable." said the nurse, "And her temperature is down to 101.2." 'Fianlly', Susie thought to herself.  Then she asked the nurse, "Have they heard any more about the heart donor?" "Dr. Matthews will be in shortly" she said, "He can answer your questions."

Bill came in and said, "Oh, you're up.  I went to get you some coffee, then I was going to wake you.  Susie said, "It's okay, the nurse was here and took Sarah's vitals, her temperature is down to 101.2."  "That's great," he said. "At least it's finally going down."  Dr. Matthews walked in about then and said, "I agree Bill, but I'm afraid it's a little too late for the transplant.  We missed out this time but hopefully we will get another one soon.  Right now what we have to do is get the fever down and keep it down, because if another donor becomes available, we need to be ready." He walked over to the bed and checked Sarah over as she lay there sleeping.  "Lets go for a walk," he said, "I want to talk to the two of you."
