Chapter 3 Page 4

Life Without Susie
(Eight Years Later)

Later that day, after Kate dropped Sarah off, she called about the Cinderella carriages. She ordered one for the night of Sarah's party. Kate was so excited she could hardly wait for the party. She thought about how beautiful Sarah would look in that beautiful gown, sitting in the Cinderella carriage. She thought about Susie and how proud she would be of Sarah, and of Bill, he had done such a good job raising Sarah and Justin on his own. She called Bill the next day and said, "Bill, everything has been taken care of. Sarah has her clothes, the food and carriage has been ordered, and the invitations have been sent out. Now all you have to do is get Justin and your clothes and then relax." Bill laughed and said, "Mom, you are one amazing lady, what would I do without you?" Kate said, "I am sure you would do fine son, but thanks anyway."

The next day Bill took Justin shopping. He had Justin try on a couple of suits. When he came out of the dressing room, he looked so grown up. Bill thought to himself, 'Susie would be so proud of her little man.' Justin spoke up and said, "Geeze Dad, I look like a nerd in this suit." His dad assured him he didn't look like a nerd but that he looked very grown up. Justin said, "Ahh, come on Dad, do I have to wear it?" "It's your sister's birthday, son. Do it for her," Dad told him. "I want everything to be special for her birthday." "Oh, alright," Justin said, "I guess I can do it for Sarah." Bill laughed and hugged Justin and thanked him, "Now go change and I'll take you to lunch." "Cool," Justin hurried to change and said, "I'll be right back."

Bill took Justin to his favorite Chinese place for lunch. While Justin was eating his third egg roll, Bill looked at him and laughed. "What's so funny? Justin asked, with his mouth half full. "I was just thinking how much you take after your mom, she loved egg rolls too." "Really?" said Justin. "Yeah," Bill said, "They were her favorite Chinese food." "Tell me about her, Dad, what was she like? I wish I could have known her." "Me too, Justin, she loved you so much and was so happy when she first saw you. She said you were the most beautiful little boy she'd ever seen. I remember her smiling when she first held you and said, Look Bill, isn't he something special?" Bill looked up at Justin and saw him wiping tears from his eyes. Justin told his dad how special he thought that was. "I won't argue with you there, son, she was amazing, that's for sure." Then Bill said, "We'd better be getting home, Sarah will be worried." "Yeah," Justin said, "We know how she worries," and they both had a good laugh.
