Susie started to tell
Bill the most heart breaking story he had ever heard. She said,
"My father died when I was four, and my little brother, Teddy was one.
Daddy was so wonderful and funny, as much as I can remember about him.
Things were wonderful when he was here. My mom was so sad after he
died, I would hear her cry at night in her room when she thought we were
asleep. I felt so bad for her because I knew she missed Daddy so
much. I tried to help her all I could but I was so young, I
couldn't do much. She worried so much because she had very little
money and no job, with two kids to care for, so she got a job at night
and my grandma took care of us so she could work. Then she met
Matt and that's when things started to change. Matt liked to drink
and when he did, he was mean to Mom and me and Teddy. But Mom was
so lonely and she said she loved him. He made good money and she
didn't have to work anymore. She liked that. She always took
up for him when he hit her or us. She would say she shouldn't have
made him mad and she said that's why he did it, but that wasn't true.
He was just mean, that's why he did it. Then when I was six years
old, things really changed.
One night Mom was
out with some friends and Matt came home drunk. He must have sent
the baby sitter home. He came into my room and started putting his
hands all over me. I was so scared and I asked him to please stop,
but he just slapped me across the face adn told me to shut up and do
what I was told to do. He said if not, he would kill my mom
and Teddy in front of me. I tried to lie there quietly, praying he
would stop. He was hurting me so bad that I cried out for him to
stop and he slapped me again. Then soon it was over and he left
the room. I slid off the bed and got a new gown because he'd
ripped mine off and I slid it on and climbed back into bed, hurting so
much. I laid curled up and cried myself to sleep. The next day Mom
saw my face was bruised from where Matt had slapped me, she asked how it
happened and Matt spoke up and said, "She got up to go to the bathroom
half asleep and ran into the bathroom door. Mom said, "Susie is
that true?" I shook my head yes because I was so scared.
After that he came into my room every time Mom was gone. Sometimes
if he had friends over he would let them touch me too. Every time
I prayed to God to save me but He never did."
