She opened the door to Sara's hospital room and wheeled her in, Sarah
squealed with delight and said, "Oh Mommy, it's wonderful, it's
almost just like my room at home."
The girls and Bill peeped out from behind the door where they had
been hiding and yelled, "Happy Birthday Sarah!"
Sarah's eyes steamed up as she saw all her friends standing there.
She was so happy. They
came up one by one and hugged her. She
said, "I have missed you all so much."
They said, "We missed you too Sarah, very much and we've
missed your singing at church." Susie
said, "Maybe Sarah will sing for us later if she feels up to it.
Now, lets get this tea party going."
As the girls and Sarah sat around the table and had their tea and cookies,
Susie talked to the mothers, she thanked each one of them for coming.
She said, "Sarah is so happy to see them all, and it's good to
see her happy again." She explained Sarah's health problems to the
mothers as she tried to hold back the tears.
They told her how very sorry they were that Sarah was so sick, and
asked if they could be of any help. Susie
said, "Only if you can give me a miracle, that's what Sarah needs
now."
She looked over at Sarah and she looked just like a little angel in her
beautiful white dress with all the ruffles and bows.
Her blonde curly hair sparkled from the sunlight shinning on it.
That reminded her about the angel doll that she had bought at
Wal-Mart the night before, the one named Sarah.
She had hidden it in the bathroom while Sarah was gone for her
walk. She told the mothers,
"I'll be right back." Then
she went in and got the doll and said, "Okay, it's time for Sarah to
open presents. This one is
from Daddy and me." Sarah
looked at the beautiful angel doll and said, "Oh Mommy, how beautiful
and she looks just like Angel Doris."
Susie looked at the doll and thought to herself, 'Sarah is right,
she does look like my mom.' As
she looked at the two of them, she realized something else she had never
really thought of before, Sarah
looked a lot like her Grandmother Doris.
'I can't believe I never noticed that before,' Susie thought to
herself.
Little Stacy said, "Who is this Angel Doris?" Then all the other
girls said, "Yeah, Sarah, who is Angel Doris?"
Sarah proudly said, "Angel Doris is my grandmother angel, she
lives in heaven with Jesus and she watches over me."
"Wow! that's really cool," said the girls.
Sarah smiled and said, "Yes it is, and heaven is beautiful
too." "How do you
know?" Stacy asked, but
before Sarah could answer, Sally said, "Because her Angel Doris told
her so, silly." They all
giggled and Sarah began to open her presents, then they all made a Build A
BEAR. "I think I'll call
her Susie, Mommy, after you, so when I get scared, I can hug up close to
my Susie bear and I'll know that I will be okay."
