Chapter 3 Page 2

Life Without Susie
(Eight Years Later)

Bill sat there at the kitchen table trying to work on a guest list for Sarah's party, he thought back to when she had her birthday party in the hospital when she was four. How Susie had worked so hard to make it special for Sarah. At the time they thought it might be Sarah's last birthday. He thought to himself, 'I want this to be Sarah's best birthday ever. "Oh Susie, how I wish you were here." He said, "Our little Sarah is such a young lady. I know you are watching over us from heaven, but Susie, I miss you so much, some days I feel like I can't go on. People say it's been eight years, Bill, you have to move on. To what Susie? You were my life, the only woman I ever loved. I could never love someone else." Overcome after all these years with grief, Bill laid his head down on the table and cried.

He must of dozed off because a noise awoke him, it was Sarah, fixing breakfast. "I'm sorry, Daddy," she said. "I didn't mean to wake you. Why were you sleeping down here, are you okay? Is something wrong?" Bill said, "No honey, I'm fine. I was working on your birthday party plans and I must have fallen asleep. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to worry you." Sarah giggled and then she hugged his neck and said, "It's okay, I love you, Daddy." Bill smiled and said, "I love you too, sweetie." Then Justin came into the room and said, "Hey, what's with all this mushy stuff?" Sarah threw the hand towel at him, giggled and said, "Don't worry about it shrimp, just sit down and eat your breakfast.

After breakfast when the kids had gone to school, Bill took a shower and got ready for work. After Susie died, he had decided to go back to work, besides being the minister of his church. He had been a part time accountant when Susie got pregnant and decided to give that up so they could spend more time together. Little did he know that wouldn't last. Now the kids were older and he needed something to keep himself busy, so he decided to go back to work as an accountant, but just part time. He still made sure he was there for the children.
