Chapter 1       Page 10

Summer Love

The movie started right after Margo and Daniel arrived at the theatre. so there wasn't much time to talk. Margo had such a hard time keeping her mind on the movie. She kept thinking about Daniel, and wondering if perhaps he did have a girlfriend back home. She thought to herself, surely he would have said so, wouldn’t he? And why would he ask her out  would he ask her out if indeed he did have a girlfriend? Stop it; she thought to herself, you are driving yourself crazy. But she couldn't help it; she never had a guy affect her the way he did.

Daniel must have noticed how preoccupied she was. He whispered,  is everything alright .oh yes it's fine, she said. I guess I just got caught up in the movie. Ok if you are sure, I thought maybe you didn't like    the movie; you seem so far away. I’m sorry she said, it’s a great movie. I guess I just have a lot on my mind. We could leave if you'd like, he said.  The soda shop would be a lot better so we can talk .ok said Margo, I would like that. At the soda shop they ordered two chocolate shakes, and sat down in one of the booths in the back. And started to talk.

so Daniel ,said Margo, are you on any of the sports teams at Edgewater? Yes he said I am on the track team, I love to run. What about you, said Daniel. Do you belong to any clubs at school? I’m in the choir said Margo, I play the violin. Really said Daniel I play the guitar, but I’m not that good at it. Don't feel bad said Margo, I've been playing two years and still only know four songs all the way through. Daniel chuckled, well you got me beat I think I only know two. Then they both laughed. So is there a special someone back home, Daniel asked. No said Margo, the guys I know at Edgewater are too immature, what about you Daniel, is there a special someone back home ?No, the girls I’ve met  are too into themselves  to interest me. They worry more about the style of clothes and shoes, and who’s popular or not. Margo laughed and said yeah I have met a lot of those kinds. Most of them come from money and will constantly remind you of how rich they are. But what good is money without love and friendship? That’s what I think too said Daniel. Then he smiled and said, you are more level headed then any girl I have ever met. Margo giggled and said, well thank you Daniel

They sat and talked for a while longer. Then on the walk home Daniel said, do you mind if I hold your hand, Miss White? Margo smiled and said, not at all Mr. Rodgers. So hand in hand the two of them walked under the moonlit sky, back to magnolia lane. Margo thought to herself this feels so right. Then they walked up the steps to the front porch. Margo felt for a moment like she was scarlet O’Hara, and Daniel was Rhet butler. Then Daniel spoke and jolted her back to reality. He said, I really had a good time Margo. She said I did too Daniel, it has been so good just to sit and talk to someone who really listens. I feel the same way Margo; it’s almost feels like we have known each other forever. Then he said, would you like to go for a walk tomorrow? There are some great trails down near the  creek, and then if you like we could go swimming latter. That sounds great, said Margo. I’ll bring us a picnic basket. Then it'd a date said Daniel, I'll see you tomorrow.

As she turned to go inside, Daniel spoke and said Margo, she turned and said yes Daniel; he leaned over and kissed her. She felt her knees weaken, he said, I have wanted to do that every since I met you. She stood there not wanting to move. He smiled and said I’ll see you tomorrow. Then she watched him walk down the steps. Finally she was   able to move; she opened the front door and walked in. Then she leaned against the door and said to herself. Darn Margo, you could have at least said me too,  or something witty. Instead you just stood there like a dummy. About that time grandma walked over and touched her shoulder. She had been so  deep in thought she hadn't even heard grandma come into the room. so when grandma touched her shoulder, she jumped. Oh my lord, she said, grandma you scared me to death. My goodness girl, what has you
so jumpy, Oh grandma, nothing is wrong, for the first time in a long time everything is right. Well let’s go sit in the kitchen, and I’ll fix you some hot cocoa, and we can talk about what has you in this mood.
