The next couple of days seemed like a dream, but then
Sarah starting getting better except that her joints were affected, and
her legs and arms were weak. After
a week in the hospital Sarah could finally go home, but she would have to
use a wheelchair. Dr. Matthews
warned Susie and Bill that things could change at any time.
He said, "Sarah’s heart is badly damaged and she cannot be
as active as she used to be."
About a week after she was home, while Sarah was talking to Susie,
she said, “Mommy, did you know I met Jesus?”
Susie said, “What do you mean Sarah?”
Sarah went on to tell her mother the
most wonderful story. She
said, “I went there Mommy, I went to Heaven and I saw Jesus!
Then I looked down and saw you and daddy crying and that made me
very sad. Jesus said that you
were sad because I was going away, He said if I wanted to, I could stay a
while with you. I told Him it
was so beautiful there in heaven, but I wanted to stay with you and daddy.
He told me to close my eyes and count to ten, then when I opened
them again, I could see you and daddy.
He said for me to tell everyone what I’d seen. He was so nice to
me Mommy, and heaven is so beautiful,
even more than daddy said it was.
While I was in heaven, I saw a beautiful lady.
She looked just like an angel, she said her name was Doris and that
I should tell you hello for her. Do
you know her, Mommy? Do you
know the lady named Doris? She
was so beautiful Mommy!"
Susie turned her face away from Sarah and tears ran down her face.
She said, “Yes, Sarah, I know her.
She is my Mother and your Grandmother.
She went to heaven long ago when I was a young girl."
Then Sarah said, “Well, she said if I come to heaven to live, she
will take good care of me so you won’t have to worry about me.
She said to tell you she had always loved you and always will.”
Susie choked back her tears as she thought of her Mother.
It had been so long, sometimes it seemed like forever to her.
She turned to Sarah and said, “That is good to know Sarah, but
Mommy and Daddy want you to stay here with us.”
“Me too,” giggled
Sarah, "Because I would miss you and daddy and I would miss my dolls
and all my friends from church.
