While Susie slept, Bill called his
mother and told her about Justin's birth. "He's so beautiful, Mom,
and so tiny, he weighs six pounds and four ounces, he is eighteen inches
long, and looks so much like Sarah. By the way, how is she doing? Has she
been good?" Kate said, "She has been wonderful, honey. Don't you
worry about her. Would you like to talk to her? I know she would love to
hear about Justin." Bill said, "Yes I would Mom, put her on,
okay?" Sarah's voice came on the line, "Daddy, is that you"
How is Mommy? Can I come see her? When is she coming home?" Bill
laughed, "Hold on Sweetie, one question at a time." Sarah
giggled, "I'm sorry, Daddy." They both laughed. Bill said,
"Mommy is okay, she had to have surgery so she is sore, and Sarah,
baby Justin was born, would you like to come see him and Mommy?"
"Can I Daddy, that would be so wonderful." Bill said, "Yes,
you can honey, put Grandma back on the phone so we can talk."
"Okay, Daddy, and Daddy, I love you." Bill said, "I love
you too honey, see you soon." Bill talked to his mom and set up a
time for them to come, then he said, "There's a lot going on, Mom,
things aren't over yet, but I'll tell you all about it later." Kate
said, "Okay honey, we'll see you in a little while."
Bill settled in the chair next to
Susie's bed, reading his bible. He must of have dozed off. He was awakened
by a noise in the room. It was the nurse, checking on Susie. She said,
"I'm sorry I woke you, Mr. Kendell." Bill smiled and said,
"That's okay, I must of just dozed off, how's she doing?"
"She's good, her vitals are strong. Why don't you go get some lunch?
She will sleep for a little while yet."
Bill was headed down the hallway when
he ran into Kate and Sarah. "Daddy," Sarah squealed, "How
is Mommy?" Bill hugged Sarah and said, "Mommy is asleep, baby
girl, lets go get something to eat and see Justin, then maybe she'll be
awake." "Okay," said Sarah, "I can't wait to see them.
I finally get to see what Justin looks like." Bill laughed and said,
"He is a cute little thing. I am sure you'll like him." Sarah
giggled and said, "I know I will because I'm his big sister."
Bill laughed and said, "And a mighty fine big sister you are. Now
lets go get some lunch and go see that little brother of yours."
After lunch they stopped by the gift
shop and as Sarah looked around, Bill and Kate talked. Bill told her about
the tumor, and that it was cancer. "I am so worried about her, Mom.
They didn't get it all," He said, "She'll have to have Chemo.
What if she doesn't make it?" Kate hugged him and said, "Don't
give up Bill, just look at Sarah, she made it and they didn't think she
would." Bill looked at his daughter and said, "I know, Mom, I
guess I'm just a little scared." Kate said, "I know honey, but
just hang in there and leave the rest up to God."
Sarah came running over to them and
said, "Look Daddy, can we get this for Justin?" She was holding
a cute little blue outfit. It said, I'm A Little Brother. Bill laughed and
said, "That's perfect, yes, we can get it, Mommy will love it. Now
lets get Mommy some flowers." They picked out some beautiful pink
roses with a big balloon that said, Congratulations, It's a boy! Then they
hurried off to see Justin.
