As they walked back to the room she
said, "Bill, if it's okay with you, I would like to go to the
chapel." Bill said, "Okay, Susie, I'll go to the room and wait
for Mom and Sarah." She hugged him and said "Thanks honey, I'll
be there shortly." She walked into the chapel and knelt down in front
of the altar. "Lord," she said, "You have given me so much
and I am grateful for all of it. You brought Bill into my life at a time
when I thought I couldn't go on. You gave me my beautiful daughter and
saved her life when we thought we would lose her. Now you have given me a
sweet little boy to love. Lord, please don't let this all end now. I know
you have a plan for me, and you know Lord, I love you with all my heart.
Please give me the strength to fight this cancer so that I can live to see
my kids grown. Lord, I know that only you can heal me, so I'm asking you
today to do that, to take this cancer from my body and let me live for my
children." Susie sat for a little while praying, then she remembered
Sarah was coming so she headed back to her room.
When she got to her room, Sara and
Kate were there. Sarah ran to Susie and hugged her tightly and said,
"Oh Mommy, I have missed you!" Susie kissed her forehead and
said, "I have missed you too Sarah, so very much." They sat and
talked for awhile and Sarah told her mommy all about school. "I have
learned so much this year Mommy, third grade is really fun." Susie
laughed and hugged her and said, "Well, I am glad you like it,
sweetie." Sarah said, "Mommy, when can you and Justin come
home?" "Well I hope soon, honey, but I have to have an operation
first." "Why?" said Sarah, "One of my friends at
school has cancer, is that what you have too, Mommy?" "Yes,
Sarah I do, and will have to have some treatments for it, so it will be a
little while before Mommy can be like her old self again."
"Well, I will take care of you Mommy, I am a big girl now and I will
help with Justin too." Susie laughed and hugged her and said,
"Thanks honey, that will be nice."
Then there was a knock at the door.
The nurse pushed open the door. She had Justin in his basinet. She said,
"I thought Sarah would like to see her brother." Sarah beamed
with pride and said, "Oh thank you, I sure do." She looked down
at her little brother and said, "Hey, little guy, remember me? I'm
Sarah and I'm your big sister. I can't wait till you can come home so I
can show you your new room. I think you will love it there, we have lots
of toys for you to play with and a big rocking chair for Mommy to rock you
in." Susie smiled as she watched her children and silently said,
'Thank you God, for my beautiful babies.'
Bill looked over at Susie and said,
"You look tired sweetie" "I am a little," she said,
"But I'm enjoying Sarah and Justin's visit." Kate walked over to
Susie and said, "Well, Sarah and I need to go so we can stop and get
something for dinner and Sarah can do her home work." "Do we
have to?" Sarah said, "I'm having so much fun." "I
know," Kate said, "But Mommy needs her rest. We can come back
tomorrow." "Okay," Sarah said with a disappointed look on
her face, "If we have to." She walked over and hugged Susie and
said, "I love you, Mommy." Susie said, "I love you too,
Sarah, to the moon and back." Then she kissed her head.
When they left, Bill was trying to
talk Susie into taking a nap, then Dr. Roberts stopped by and said,
"You look tired, Susie." Bill said, "That's what I told her
Doctor, I was just trying to get her to take a nap."
"Well," said Dr. Roberts, "I won't keep you too long. I
just wanted to bring you up to date. The surgery is all set for tomorrow
at 8 am. It will take about an hour, including recovery time and then
we'll know when to start chemo. Hopefully by the end of the week you and
that little fellow of yours can go home." "That sounds good to
me," Susie said, "I feel like I've been in here forever."
Dr. Roberts said, "Well you try to rest Susie and I'll see you in the
morning."
