Chapter 3 Page 11

Life Without Susie
(Eight Years Later)

As she got out of the shower, she heard her dad drive up. In a few minutes she heard him call for her and Justin. "Hey you two," he said. "Come on down here, I have someone I want you to meet." Sarah tied her robe and headed downstairs. She heard voices coming from the kitchen, as she got there she saw Dad and Justin talking to someone, their backs were to her, but Bill heard her come into the room and turned to her and said, "Hey Sarah, I would like you to meet Susie." As she got closer, she saw a young girl, she was dressed in a beautiful yellow gown and had the prettiest red hair, just like Sarah's mom. Sarah said "Hi, it's so nice to meet you Susie." "Thanks," said Susie, "Can I help you get ready for the party? I do hair really good, or so I've been told." She giggled, "I would love that," Sarah told her and the two of them ran upstairs like they were old friends. Justin and Bill stood there laughing and at the same time both of them said, "Girls, go figure." And they both laughed. Then Justin said, "What's the deal with this girl, Susie, Dad?" Dad answered, "We have a party to get ready for son, we'll talk about it later." "Okay," said Justin, and off they both went to get ready. Bill, Susie and Justin left for the party together.

Sarah waited for her carriage, it finally came and it was so beautiful that Sarah truly felt like a princess. The coach was clear glass and gold metal, it had tiny white lights that lit up the night around the carriage and across both beautiful white horses pulling it. A man all dressed in a black tux and top hat climbed down and removed his hat and bowed as he opened the carriage door. In a deep British voice he said, "Your carriage awaits, my lady." He reached for Sarah's hand and helped her into the carriage, then he climbed back into the seat and away they went into the night. Soon he pulled up to a large building and stopped in front, climbed down, removed his hat and bowed. As he opened the carriage door and said, "Your hand, my lady," Sarah took his hand and stepped out of the carriage.

Two more men dressed like the first, opened two large glass doors. As the man led her through the door, he stopped inside and said, "Ladies and gentlemen, may I introduce to you, Miss Sarah Kendell." Sarah blushed as everyone in the room stood and applauded her. The camera's began to flash and she saw Bill, he was walking up to her, tears rolled down his face and hers too. He took her hand and said, "I have only seen one other that is as lovely as you, and she would be so proud of you. The way you look so grown up tonight breaks my heart, because I know you are no longer my little girl." Tears rolled down Sarah's face as she kissed her dad's cheek and said, "I will always be your little girl, Daddy, always and forever." The night was so wonderful, Sarah had such a great time and all her friends were there including her newest friend, Susie.
