They
walked into the room and Sarah ran her hand across the bedspread, as if
she could still feel her mom there. She sat down on the bed, her heart was
racing and she was shaking.
"Tell me Sarah, tell me how she was that day," Justin asked his
sister as he sat down in the chair next to the bed. Sarah told him
their mom was in and out of a coma all day, and that their dad had
called Grandma Kate and told her the doctor said it could be any time,
so Grandma brought her to the hospital, she said that the nurse had
brought him in earlier. She said, "Mom was awake and the
nurse laid you in her arms. Dad said she held you close and
whispered to you, 'I love you little one, mommy loves you' then she
smiled and fell back into a coma, so
they took you back to the nursery, you were only two weeks old and had
never been home until the day she died.
Grandma and I got here about fifteen minutes before she died. I
laid down beside her on the bed and held her hand and Daddy laid on the
other said and we talked to her, hoping she could hear us.
A few minutes before she died she was awake, she said that the
lights were beautiful and that Angel Doris, her mom was there.
She said, Can you see her, Sarah?
I said yes, but I really didn't. Then she smiled and said she loved
us all to the moon and back, forever and always, then she was gone.
Tears
filled Justin's eyes as he said, "I never knew she held me that day,
but I am glad she did." Sarah
took his hand and said, "Me too, Justin. She was so excited about
having you, she loved you and each time she was with you, her face shown
so bright you could tell she loved you."
Susie stood in the corner very quietly and the tears came as she
listened, but didn't know what to say. Sarah saw her crying and walked
over to her and said, "I'm sorry Susie, I should have never started
telling this story, it was unfair that you never got to tell your mom
goodbye.
