Chapter 4  Page 6

Goodbye To Bill

Bill started getting really agitated and tossing around in the bed.   Sarah called for the nurse, she came in and asked the kids to step out of the room for a few minutes.  Suddenly the nurse came out and got the doctor and went back into the room.  Finally the doctor came out and said,  "I'm sorry guys, it looks like your dad has had another stroke, and this one is worse than the first. We gave him something to calm him and he is asleep now,  but I need to be honest with you, I'm not sure if he'll pull through.  We'll have to wait and see.  Why don't you go to the waiting room down the hall and we'll come and get you when he wakes up."  Then he walked back into Bill's room, leaving them standing there in shock.

The three of them quietly walked down to the waiting room, not knowing what to say. They sat there for what seemed forever, then Justin was the first to break down. He stood up and walked around for a few minutes then pounded his fist on the wall saying, "Why, God, why?"  Then he dropped down to his knees and sobbed uncontrollably.  Sarah and Susie sat beside him and Sarah put her arm around him and said, "It's okay Justin, it's not over yet. He could still pull through."  Justin laid his head on her shoulder and said, "What if he doesn't, Sarah, what then?" Sarah said, "Then well have to let him go Justin, it's out of our hands.

God is in control.  It's all up to him and up to Dad, whether he will fight to hold on, he misses Mom so much.  It's been twenty years and he still feels like it was yesterday. He couldn't even think of finding someone else because in his heart there is no room for any woman except Mom. He loves all of us too, but we are all grown and he feels all alone. So I don't know if he can go on, he's tired and lonely ,It wasn't so bad when Granma Kate was here, but since she died and we are all away from home." He feels useless puttering around in that big house all by himself.
