Then
Susie, who had been quietly listening spoke up with tears falling down her
cheeks, "I don't know if I can do this, Sarah, I'm not ready to say
goodbye.
He has to be okay, he just has to. And what about Ruby, and Teddy?
They love him so much, it will break their little hearts to lose
him."
Sarah reached out and held her close and answered, "I know
Susie, I don't want to say good bye either, but we may not have a choice,
the only thing we can do is pray, and we have, so now we just have to
wait."
Then Sarah's husband, Mike, and Susie's husband, John walked into
the room. The girls were both surprised to see them, but also glad.
Sarah
asked where the kids were and John told her that his mom had them.
"Oh that was so nice of her, John, please tell her thanks for
me," Sarah said.
"No problem," he said as he reached out and pulled Susie
into his arms and said, "I'm here now, Babe. I couldn't stand for you
to have to go through this without me."
Susie just held onto him and cried.
Mike walked over to Sarah and said, "Me too, honey. It was
killing me not to be here for you.
How is he doing?"
She answered, "Well at first he seemed okay, they had a tube
down his throat
because he was having trouble breathing and then they needed to do
some test, so we left and went to the chapel. When we came back he started
to get agitated so I called the nurse. She had us leave the room, then the
doctor went in and came back out in a few minutes and said he'd had
another stroke. They gave him something to calm him down and he was
sleeping so they asked us to come down here and wait."
Her tears started falling as she said, "Mike, the doctor
said it didn't look good, he said he may not make it."
Mike held her and said, "I'm so sorry, honey.
I wish I could make it all better, I would if I could."
She kissed his cheek and said, "I know you would, Sweetie, and
I wish you could."
Justin walked over to Sarah and said, "How about we all go
down and get something to eat, I'll tell the nurse we will be in the
cafeteria."
Sarah said, "Okay Justin, and ask if there's been any
change."
"Okay, I will" he said. The others started towards the
elevators and waited.
